From Cashier to Franchisee: Firehouse Subs® Owner Opens Newest Restaurant in Courtice

Firehouse Subs Canada continues to bring hearty sandwiches and community commitment to Ontario with the latest opening in Courtice. Located at 1414 King Street East Courtice, ON L1E 2J5, the restaurant is owned by Firehouse Subs Franchisee Jasmine Nellis.

Nellis’ journey with Firehouse Subs began in 2015 when the brand first came to Canada. At 16 years old, she served as a cashier and worked her way up to become a shift leader, then a crew trainer, and eventually a manager. With each step, she gained an in-depth understanding of the company's inner workings.

After graduating from school with a business degree, Nellis knew it was time to take the next step and become a franchisee. She opened her first Firehouse Subs in Bowmanville in October 2021.

My favorite thing about being a Firehouse Subs franchisee is being able to inspire my amazing team, who are like a family to me,” said Nellis. “Watching my team progress and strive to make their dreams come true brings me great joy. I am proud to be a part of such a great brand, and I look forward to continuing to grow and serve my local community.”

Nellis is dedicated to sharing the brand’s commitment to giving back through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada, which has granted more than $2.8 million to hometown heroes in Ontario.

For each new Firehouse Subs location, a custom mural is commissioned and hand-painted by Chief Mural Officer, Joe Puskas. Every mural is unique to its community and the restaurant, with this one depicting ice skaters in Tooley’s Mill Park and a Clarington fire truck.

The Courtice King Street location boasts the new Community Design restaurant concept, featuring enhancements made to provide a better dining experience for guests, in addition to a new back-of-the-house layout with a more efficient flow for crew members. The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m., seven days a week.
