John Medeiros and Jerry Rego have been friends for decades and are now the proud owners of a new restaurant franchise location in Brampton.

The Firehouse Subs location in the Flower City opened on Oct. 13 at 9055 Airport Rd., near Queen Street and Airport Road. It's the 47th Canadian location of the American chain.

Known for their classic submarine sandwich combinations, Firehouse offers a variety of selections including meatball, steak and cheese and pastrami ruben options, among others.

Medeiros is no stranger to the franchise world, previously working as a franchise consultant for Booster Juice for more than 10 years.

He said his decision to venture into the Firehouse Subs world occurred while operating a Booster Juice franchise in Ottawa, where he visited the sandwich restaurant almost every day for lunch.

“When I was first introduced to Firehouse Subs, I found myself going every day because their subs are so satisfying — one of the best food products I’ve ever had,” said Medeiros in a release.

Rego has also worked in the restaurant industry for a number of years and first learned of Firehouse while travelling in the U.S.

The new Brampton location has a custom hand-painted mural that features the city clock tower in Chinguacousy Park and pays homage to the city's fire department.

Launched in 1994 by two brothers and former firefighters, Chris and Robin Sorensen, Firehouse Subs first arrived in Canada in 2015.

Through the chain’s Public Safety Foundation of Canada program, more than $1.5 million have been given to “hometown heroes” in Ontario. The program aims to provide funding for “life-saving equipment and education opportunities to fire responders and public safety organizations.”
