LONDON, Ont. — (November 19, 2016) Firehouse Subs announces the grand opening of its first location in London on Nov. 19. This is the second international location, and second Canadian location, for the award-winning fast casual restaurant chain. Firehouse Subs looks forward to spreading exciting new flavours throughout Canada and growth opportunities for small business franchise owners. The brand serves premium meats and cheeses steamed piping hot and piled high on a toasted sub roll, which is served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments. Founded by former firefighting brothers, the restaurant’s firehouse décor is based on the founding family’s decades of fire and police service, and the new location is decorated with firefighter memorabilia.

This Firehouse Subs restaurant is located at 879 Wellington Road South, and is open Sunday - Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday – Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. This is the first restaurant for local owners Bill Carr, Phil Dawson and Teresa Cavaliere, who are excited to bring the fire to London.

ONFIRE Restaurants Inc., a partnership between three Canada-based restaurant industry veterans, was the first group to launch the brand in Canada, opening the first restaurant in October 2015 in Oshawa, Ont. With more than 50 combined years of restaurant development and management experience, Alex Gerzon, Richard Jodoin and George Heos are leaders in the Canadian restaurant industry, and look forward to further developing the Canadian market.

Firehouse Subs offers medium and large hot specialty subs, including the number one selling Hook & Ladder® sub, served with smoked turkey breast and Virginia honey ham smothered with Monterey Jack cheese. Other top sellers include the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket™ loaded with USDA choice beef brisket smoked for at least 16 hours in an authentic Texas smokehouse and topped with melted cheddar cheese and a special combination of sauces, including Sweet Baby Ray’s® Barbecue Sauce. Additionally, each restaurant offers an assortment of 50+ complimentary hot sauces, including Captain Sorensen’s® Datil Pepper Hot Sauce, named in honor of the founding brothers’ father, Rob Sorensen, a 43-year retired fire captain.

Firehouse Subs restaurants boast custom, hand-painted murals that pay tribute to the local community. The London mural depicts the London Fire Department extinguishing a fire with help from London Police Department.

Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas and his team paint every mural from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas has painted more than 1,030 murals.

The touch-screen operated Coca-Cola Freestyle® fountain is available in every restaurant and offers 120+ sparkling and still beverage brands with 70+ regular and low-calorie options. Choices include the top selling non-carbonated fountain drink Cherry Lime-Aid, Cherry Lime-AidLight and the newest variety, Sparkling Cherry Lime-Aid, all exclusive original recipes by Firehouse Subs, served with fresh squeezed lime.

Launched in 2015, the Firehouse Rewards digital loyalty program offers guests an opportunity to earn and redeem points for each restaurant visit through a smartphone app. Once registered, guests can use the app to redeem their points for items such as a free medium sub on their birthday and more. The free app is available on Google Play and the App Store.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina’s wrath inspired Firehouse Subs founders, Chris and Robin Sorensen, to establish the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in the U.S. Ten years later, with the opening of the first Canadian restaurant in 2015, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada was born with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment and education opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. Many first responders make do with older equipment and have limited or no access to needed resources. The 501(c)(3) Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has given more than $29,400 to hometown heroes in Canada, along with more than $23 million in 46 of the United States and Puerto Rico through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Each restaurant recycles leftover, five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $2 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
