Firehouse Subs® debuts new Chicken Gyro Sub in Canada, and exclusive beverage option just in time for warmer temperatures

New menu item features made in-house zesty pepperoncini tzatziki spread,

available for a limited time

TORONTO – June 28, 2021 – Firehouse Subs® is introducing its newest menu item, the Chicken Gyro Sub, available now at all 43 Firehouse Subs restaurants across Ontario. This craveable, unique sub features pulled chicken breast, feta cheese, cucumber slices, lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber slices, and a new, made in-house zesty pepperoncini tzatziki spread on a Firehouse Subs’ signature toasted sub roll.

“The bright Mediterranean flavour of the Chicken Gyro Sub is something new to the Firehouse Subs brand,” said Director of Product Development Jay Miller. “I wanted to create a sub that was light and refreshing for the summertime season, while still being hearty and flavourful. And with an array of vegetables, the sub includes an added kick from the new, zesty pepperoncini tzatziki spread that makes it unique and different from your everyday gyro.”

Guests can enjoy the new Chicken Gyro Sub all summer long, and as there continues to be a focus on balanced, healthy food among consumers, this sub is sure to satisfy. For the ultimate Firehouse Subs experience, try pairing the sub with the new Cherry Lime-Aid Zero Sugar (per 375 ml serving). Originally created by Firehouse Subs founders and brothers, Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, the original Cherry Lime-Aid was introduced in the brand’s hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. The beverage is sweet but well balanced with the tartness from the lime juice. In fact – during the early days of Firehouse Subs, Chris and Robin, along with “Momma Sorensen,” would hand-squeeze the limes and hand-pour the Cherry Lime-Aid for guests.

The new Cherry Lime-Aid Zero Sugar is offered either still and sparkling, and comes in other varieties such as the original Cherry Lime-Aid, Cherry Lime-Aid Light, Sparkling Cherry Lime-Aid and Sparkling Cherry Lime-Aid Light – making it the perfect refreshment option to beat the heat of summer. As a tip to enhance the drink even more, make sure to request fresh lime wedges!

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina’s wrath inspired Firehouse Subs Founders Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen to establish the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® in the U.S. Ten years later, with the opening of the first Canadian restaurant in 2015, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada® was born with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and education opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has granted more than $1.5 million to hometown heroes in Ontario, along with more than $60 million in 49 of the United States and Puerto Rico through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. And through a COVID-19 Disaster Relief Fund, local Firehouse Subs owners across Ontario have partnered with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada to donate more than 8,600 meals to healthcare workers and first responders on the front lines of the pandemic. Each restaurant recycles its pickle buckets, available to guests for a $3 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
