CELEBRATING FAMILY DAY WITH FIREHOUSE SUBS - MEET THE SHAH FAMILY

CELEBRATING FAMILY DAY WITH FIREHOUSE SUBS - MEET THE SHAH FAMILY

In honor of Family Day on February 21, we are recognizing and honoring some of our Canada Firehouse Subs franchisees who work side by side with their families.

Learn about how local franchisee Nilam Shah and his nephew Ravish Shah work together every day at their three Firehouse Subs restaurants in Barrie, Vaughan and Orillia.

Tell us about your family dynamic.

I married my wife Pallavi and we have two adult children; our son Parth is a lawyer practicing in Los Angeles, while our daughter Shreya is currently studying to be a doctor. Ravish is married to his wife Purvisha, who is the general manager of their restaurant in Barrie and a great support to Ravish and our Firehouse Subs team. Ravish and Purvisha have two daughters, three-year-old Kashvi and newborn Saira.

How long ago did you venture into restaurant ownership with your family?

We have been involved in Firehouse Subs since 2017. Ravish managed a Tim Hortons location for over 10 years and helped me at my Little Caesars location since 2012.

What’s your favorite part about working together?

Ravish has great people management skills and is a great leader. We work well together through good communication and a clear vision.

If you have children or spouses, are they involved in your restaurant at all?

Our children are not a part of our restaurant team per say but Purvisha is involved full time in managing one of our restaurants, which gives us freedom to expand.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about owning and operating a restaurant with your family?

It can get complicated if you are not careful with how you handle stress-related situations, but being a family-owned restaurant means enjoying successes and supporting each other in failures. It makes our bonds stronger.

What activities do you enjoy doing together outside of your restaurants?

I enjoy travelling for family vacations and celebrating holidays, like Christmas, as a family. I also also like to play golf and hope to get better in time as we are a super competitive family! Ravish also loves family time. He also enjoys travelling, watching movies, cooking and going for drives with family.

What advice do you have for families who work together?

Give each other space to learn. Communication is very important, so listening to each other is vital. We have to share trust and commitment.

What does your ideal Family Day look like?

I would prefer to get together and enjoy cooking a variety of dishes - both of our kids enjoy cooking with Pallavi. Ravish and his two sisters plan to get together for a nice dinner and spend some quality time together.

What are each of your favorite Firehouse Subs?

I think the Italian is a great sub and Ravish loves the Firehouse Meatball® sub!
